The Ministry of Environment and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces Murcia have given a prize to the Best Practices for Local Climate, in recognition of the public system of bicycle rentals in the city, within the category of mobility.
The goal of III Award for Good Practice for Local Climate is to collect and disseminate the activities conducted by Spanish local entities in the field of mitigation and adaptation to climate change beyond 2005.
According to the Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, "This award encourages us to promote and enhance this new bike rental system with which the Murcia can have this type of vehicle at very affordable prices."
The mayor pointed out that in recent years, "Murcia is in the national forefront as far as sustainability is concerned. Thus, the municipality has received several awards such as Award Green Flag City Manager, the seventh edition Sustainable City Award, Energy Prize (transport and energy distribution Aguas de Murcia), the Mobility Week Award, selected for Prize Dubai - Dubai Award for Best Practice 2010, Globe nomination for City Sustainability Awards, recognizing "City of Forests" ( WWF) and the Award "Platinum Broom."
