The Museum of Science and Water is involved in the Week of Science and Technology in Biodiversity related activities (03/11/2010)

As every year, the Museum of Science and Water will have its own booth in the Week of Science and Technology opens tomorrow at the Garden Pier.

Thus, the activities to be offered will be related to biodiversity, as this is the International Year.

One activity, called "Biomimicry: Innovation or imitation?

Life balance 'and intended for all audiences, seek, through various exhibition resources (photos, presentations, interactive and some samples of carnivorous plants, animals ...) to show visitors the various adaptations of living organisms to the environment in which they live, mechanisms by morphological, physiological or ethological.

It also shows how man throughout history, observing nature, has imitated and mimics the shape, physiology and behavior of living things found in it, useful products and technological tools for daily life.

With this information, visitors can participate in a quiz to be held on four days of the fair, once a day.

On the other hand it reinforces the importance of preserving biodiversity and the impact of the extinction of species through a popular game that consists of a wooden tower with colored pieces representing species.

The dynamics consists in removing parts preventing the tower will collapse, ie without disturbing the balance of this ecosystem.

In addition, the Museum of Science and Water has organized other activities for this exhibition aimed particularly at children 6 to 12 years, through sensory experimentation, to recognize the role of different species of animals and plants the organization and maintenance of all forms of life on our planet, ie the conservation of biodiversity.

After the recognition of different species, children made a table describing the sensory characteristics of each, and also develop their own plate with the picture of the species do like.

Moreover, the Science Museum continues its work in the field of astronomy, so the stand will have books available for free download from the Internet to learn and use some useful software to acquire astronomical knowledge.

Visitors will have access to a computer to test, always with the help of a monitor.

Likewise, they may make a "virtual tour through the stars and the Solar System" with the program Celestia and "observation of a simulated sky" with the program Stellarium.
