Civil Protection has three dogs involved in rescue and search for missing (21/10/2010)

As important as the Civil Defence volunteers are the three dogs who live with them and form part of the Rescue Dog Unit and Rescue Department of Civil Protection, headed Beatriz Hontoria.

This is the last operating unit created in April 2008, which has assisted in the search for missing persons.

This project was launched thanks to the interest shown by Civil Defence volunteers and had the support of Councilman Remigio Lopez, who died recently.

The Directorate General of Natural Environment and Biodiversity gave the kennels of the Valley where you will find the Canine Unit and is the area of training.

This unit employs two people, who are responsible for training the dogs.

These volunteers have taken courses such as Guide Dog Canine Rescue and Salvage.

Two dogs were the first to join this unit, Rik and Irka, which are not in the unit.

Currently consists of Paws, a Labrador retriever who joined in 2009, and has passed the first phase of training, Tesa, a German Shepherd dog owned by one of the collaborators of the unit, and Attila, a Labrador Retriever 9 months and is being trained and has begun working with him.

This unit participated in 2008 in search of a woman of 83 years in the Valle de Ricote, in 2009 have been locating people in Corvera, Cobatillas and on the road to La Union (Cartagena), and in 2010 worked at the location Two people, one in La Murta and another in Cabezo de Torres.

Dogs act mainly in search of people when there is debris (earthquakes, houses destroyed by explosions, etc) and location of people over large areas (large farms, valleys, pine forests, mountains, etc.)..

Animals located at the people following her scent, which traced in the air, once the bark found in alerting their leader, who arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.

These dogs facilitate the work of firefighters and other security and locating the exact spot where you can find people under rubble or inaccessible sites where they may be missing in mountains.

The dogs bring people together but never touching.

The training of these animals every day and can take years, depending on the nature of the dog breed, pedigree, etc.

The Civil Protection Canine Unit of the City Council has the following titles:

Guide-dog search and rescue.

-Technical training and search for people in large areas

-Ethology canine training techniques and training in positive cognitive emotional.

Seminar-training techniques and searching for people in large areas.

"Rescue in collapsed areas and French ring world, to be held shortly in Cartagena.
