The City Council and HC Energy join forces in combating climate change (19/10/2010)

The mayor, also president of ALEM, has this morning signed a collaboration agreement to develop policies for energy conservation and efficiency.

In the past two years, Murcia has implemented 83% of the measures that comprise the Local Strategy for Climate Change, saving 88,000 tons of CO2 per year

The fight against climate change undertaken by the City of Murcia through its Local Energy Agency (ALEM) again extends its resources and means, in this case with the addition of HC Power Company.

For this purpose Miguel Ángel Cámara, Mayor and President of ALEM, has this morning signed a collaboration agreement with Yolanda Etxauri, Director General of the energy company Levante, in order to regulate the commitments and actions which will be framed this collaboration.

The ultimate goal is shared by both parties, undertake joint policy aimed at promoting and encouraging local savings measures and energy efficiency to combat climate change in Murcia, only the promotion of renewable energy.

Under the agreement signed this morning, HC Energía participate and collaborate in all activities since ALEM, including the implementation of the Sustainable Energy Plan Murcia, framed in the Covenant of Mayors of the European Union, which aims to reduce a 20% reduction of greenhouse gases in 2020.

In this sense, the Mayor pointed out the importance of initiatives like this because "it is essential to bet with ambition and add the necessary efforts to achieve Murcia emerge successful in their fight against climate change."

Since its founding in 2008, the Agency leads the Local Strategy for Climate Change Murcia-aimed at reducing 240,000 tons of CO2 in 2012 - manages the Municipal Office in charge of the Bicycle-channel integration of this transport in municipality, and coordinates activities related to the presidency of Murcia in the Eurocities Mobility Forum.

Within two years, have started 95 of the 114 measures that make up the Local Strategy, which represents a 83% compliance with the plan and makes it possible for Murcia now is saving 88,000 tonnes of CO2 a year.

81,000 customers

HC Power, who has spent years operating in the Region of Murcia, acquired last year, the distribution of natural gas to more than 95,000 delivery points.

In addition the company sells gas and electricity in the region which already totals more than 76,000 gas customers and 5,000 electricity.

HC Power, a Spanish company EDP Group is a company present throughout the value chain of the energy sector.
