Ecologists in Action alleges that the wifi network of the municipality of Murcia increase of electromagnetic pollution (15/10/2010)

For Ecologists in Action, the wireless deployment project in Murcia, with the installation of a large number of satellite-receiving stations of the wireless system, will increase the public exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) pulsed microwaves at both an increase of electromagnetic pollution in the town and some villages of Murcia.

The location of these antennas wifi traffic lights and streetlights in the vicinity of residential buildings exposed to their neighbors in their homes emission radio radiation they have not desired, and add to the emissions from mobile phone base antennas, radio and picoantenas that have proliferated in a chaotic and disorderly in the urban municipality of Murcia.

Ecologists in Action quoted the recommendations of international research conferences on electromagnetic fields, such as the Benevento (Italy) in their proposed resolution: Promote alternatives to wireless communication systems, for example, use of fiber optics and coaxial cables [1].

In September 2007, the European Environment Agency (EEA) states the need to challenge the limits of current exposure to EMF, including those emitted by wireless systems, according to the BioInitiative Working Group [2].

Lastly, in April 2009, Parliament passed a resolution urging the Commission to recognize, increasing public and scientific concerns about the health risks of electromagnetic fields, pointing out in paragraph B. "the technology of wireless devices (mobile phone, Wifi, Wimax and Bluetooth, your DECT landline) CEM issues that can cause adverse effects to human health [3]

Following the precautionary principle, Ecologists in Action proposes, compared with wifi wireless system, the establishment of a municipal network of cable Internet access, whose comparative advantages outweigh the wireless access systems because it allows a higher speed Internet access increase the transmission capacity and data exchange, has fallen and signal interference and, above all, do not add unnecessarily to the citizenship of Murcia on pulsed microwave electromagnetic fields in a residential and continuous.

The environmental organization has addressed both the City of Murcia as Secretary of State for Telecommunications of the Ministry of Industry and Energy as an entity responsible in the control of the airwaves, in the sense of promotion and development of cable Internet access as an alternative to wireless systems.
