Prof Gaspar Ros coordinates a network to learn about the nutrients in food (14/10/2010)

Professor of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Murcia, Gaspar Ros coordinate RedBEDCA (Public Research Centres, Administration and private institutions) to develop a database of food composition, which will allow citizens to know nutrients of a particular food.

Through this network, any interested person may view the composition of a thousand foods commonly consumed by the Spanish, in addition to carrying out other functions to identify sources of specific nutrients, making individual diet analysis, design special diets for patients and menus evaluate its composition.

The network has been created from an agreement of the University of Murcia, the Spanish Food Safety Agency (AESAN), which finances the project, and is incorporated as an aid to complementary actions of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Access to the database and nutritional information can be made through www.bedca.net address or a link on the website of AESAN www.aesan.msps.es
