The University of Murcia will compete in the Solar Race on a vehicle built entirely by it (24/09/2010)

The University of Murcia has presented today at the Chancellor's solar vehicle to be faced by other European teams 1 and 2 October at the Cartagena circuit in the Solar Race competition.

The prototype is the first solar-powered photovoltaic wholly designed and built in the Region of Murcia.

Fusang, so the vehicle has been dubbed, is a three-wheeled car with 80 kg of weight and power 1kW engine that can reach a maximum speed of 50 km / h, according to Antonio Gonzalez said Professor Carpenter.

Carpena Gonzalez, who along with fellow teacher leads the team Mariano Alarcón VESOS UMU, said at the presentation ceremony that the prototype, including within the project "Sustainable Vehicles of the University of Murcia, is a" core of education that intended to train students, which has led it to be built entirely in our university, unlike other teams. "

The rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, highlighted this fact, "the leading role in making the car corresponds to the students, the reason for the universities."

The vehicle Fusang is sponsored by the Seneca Foundation, the Regional Federation of Employers of the Metal de Murcia (FREMM) and companies Soltec Renewable Energy, Suntech, Davasa and Parrot, whose representatives attended the ceremony wished luck to the team.

In the presentation, the first deputy mayor of San Javier, José Angel Noguera, announced that his city will host a race with vehicles involved in the Solar Race Murcia.
