35 people can cultivate their gardens and leisure (22/09/2010)

This year Espinardo add a plot and one in St. James the Great to the existing South Round the Green Sangonera

35 people can begin to cultivate their gardens and leisure.

Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, along with technicians from the council, have proceeded to draw lots to designate these orchards.

Of the 35 gardens available, eleven have been renovations last year.

In total there have been 33 people interested in cultivating the 24 remaining orchards, of which fifteen are retired.

Remember that the initiative leisure gardens began in 2008.

This year has expanded the number of orchards, with the addition of two new gardens, Garden of St. James CR4 EU-4 and Plot Plan SGEL Part ZA-ED3 in Espinardo, adding to existing ones in the garden South Round Lake and garden Sangonera the Green Sunflowers

Each plot consists of an area between 100-120 m2, being mainly for growing vegetables.

Cultures were performed in organic farming system in order not to handle hazardous pesticides and to guarantee respect for health and the environment.

Remember that products obtained from the orchards are intended exclusively for the consumption and seed multiplication of local varieties.

Although the choice of crop is free, is prioritizing the use of traditional varieties of Murcia.

The people who are cultivating these gardens and leisure additionally, with the help of specialized staff to grow traditional varieties recovered, selecting productive varieties and best qualities, choose the best quality seed, seed multiplication of varieties in danger species and establish a breeding program.

This project seeks to maintain the agricultural landscape and crop-associated biodiversity, providing a leisure activity for retired persons or early retirement to help improve their physical and mental and informative space to serve the improvement of knowledge about the origin and the evolution of the garden.
