Only three of every 100 children obtain a place in public kindergartens (15/09/2010)

Secretary of Education of the Municipal Executive, María José Tristant, denounced today in a press conference that "only three of every hundred children between 0 and 3 years of the municipality of Murcia are likely to go to a local children's schools" .

Tristant noted that this conclusion is reached after studying the pattern of Murcia as of January 1, 2009 notes that there are a total of 15,809 children in this age and compare it with the 521 seats of the seven primary schools managed by the City Council Murcia (Algezares, Beniaján, La Alberca, La Paz, El Palmar, James, and the Green Sangonera).

Tristant has also highlighted the "excessive price difference between private schools and public (municipal and community)."

Although children's school fees depend on the number of hours a child stays, meals are made in the center (breakfast, lunch and snack) and contracted services (transport, swimming, hiking), responsible for Education the Municipal Executive explained that "assuming that the child remains in care eight hours a day, including lunch and snack (if they are offered by the center), in private the average is 300 per month compared to 133.27 of the public (including dining and teaching). "

In addition, states that the private Tristant also charge a registration fee which typically ranges between 90 and 200 euros.

60% of applications refused for lack of places

For its part, the Socialist councilor in the city of Murcia, María Dolores Abellon, recalled that "this school year have lost their place 390 children in public kindergartens in the municipality, or what is the same has been denied nearly 60 % of applications submitted by lack of space. "

In addition, the council affects only half the available places (521) are offered to the population, which has meant that this year a total of 654 applications have had to compete for one of the 264 places available and offered in the seven municipal nursery.

Abellon recalled that "year after year repeating the same data and many families this year are nearly 400 of which can not reconcile their work and family due to lack of space, or need to see increased spending if they take their children to private costs twice as much advertising. "

On this point, Abellon criticizes "the cynical attitude of the PP announcing with fanfare helps 'pequecheque', which have proven inadequate and ineffective because the families who have claimed they have done with a year's delay, which shows that the PP nor create or social care practice, only used as an advertising operation. "

Finally, the mayor also lamented "the indifference of the House that after fifteen years of Popular Party government in La Glorieta not created any public place for the seven public kindergartens in the municipality are the legacy of socialist mandates. Instead it has promoted private businesses without worrying about the economic harm caused to thousands of families. "
