A course at the University of the Sea shall make the deep-sea biodiversity Ibiza.
"Marine ecology: management and conservation of the Mediterranean coast is the course organized by the University of Murcia, to be conducted between 20 and 22 September in the town of Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza.
This is the first time that these traditional summer courses, which this year reached the XXVII edition, travel to the Balearic archipelago.
The course, which coincides with the celebration of International Year of Biodiversity, poses as its main objective to raise awareness on the major issues looming on the Mediterranean coast.
The activity has a strong applied aspect, including placements in the sea for the direct study of the fauna and flora of Ibiza.
Professors from the Universities of Murcia, the Balearic Islands and the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, researchers, technicians and diving instructors will be announced three days aspects of protected marine species, ecosystems of the island, the study of current management protected areas or environmental problems affecting the Mediterranean coast.
For three days, participants will learn the hands of these experts the applications of satellite photography in marine ecology, the Mediterranean and the protected species Posidonia oceanica, the regeneration of beaches or damage to the coast, learning to recognize the characteristics of flora and fauna.
Furthermore, course participants will have the opportunity to access by boat to the Nature Reserve is Vedra, which put into practice the knowledge acquired.
The course is led by Professor of the University of Murcia Aitor Marín Arnaldo Atucha, and offers those who enroll two free credits.
