A study proposes a commuter train to Caravaca to promote tourism (27/07/2010)

A study by Professor of Tourism at the University of Murcia José Antonio García Ayala has suggested the desirability of studying the launch of a commuter train or a tram to Caravaca de la Cruz to facilitate communications with the municipality of West on the occasion of the Jubilee Year.

The study, published in the magazine "Grand Tour", published by the said center, said that "at this time we live in, in which the train is making a comeback and become a viable alternative to road and air transport not raise these options would be crazy. "

"This new rail, adds the author closer to the main towns in the Northwest District even more visitors, including pilgrims and tourists and bring sustainability and intermodal transport to the current model."

Although the paper acknowledges the efforts made by government departments to improve communications with Caravaca de la Cruz, said that the road remains, for now, the big bet in communications with the area.

García Ayala calls "positive" Corvera airport construction, since the traveler to use the aircraft as a means of transport "will save more than fifteen minutes on the current San Javier."

In discussing the positive impact it has had to improve regional communications, especially the Northwest highway, the study's author notes that while in 2000 ten of the councils of the region were more than an hour and a half Caravaca distance, a decade later no municipal reaches this figure.
