Carlos Taibo, professor of political science and administration at the Autonomous University of Madrid, gave last Thursday the conference "In defense of degrowth".
This talk is part of the cycle of conferences that commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia.
With his presentation Taibo captivated a large audience of students and professors of our University, who were able to talk with him about the reasons for a political, social and ethical program that invites us to think and live differently.
Issues such as the limits and the true value of economic growth, the scope of the ecological crisis, the need to define a new idea of ​​well-being or the importance of questioning ourselves about the edges and gloom of consumption and technological development, were raised and discussed.
Carlos Taibo is the author of some twenty books in Spanish, Galician, and Portuguese, mostly related to transitions in contemporary Central and Eastern Europe.
Defender and supporter of anti-globalization movements, as well as economic decline and direct democracy against economic growth and representative democracy.
It has criticized very hard the philosophy that underlies the economic growth that separates the growth of the well-being and the progress.
