The Association No More Noise of Murcia and the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of the Municipality of Murcia, members of the Sector Council on Noise, we express our surprise and discomfort for the hostile and obstructive attitude shown by HOSTEMUR (Federation of Hotel and Tourism Entrepreneurs) in the procedure for the Declaration of the Areas of Special Acoustic Protection in Murcia Center, its delimitation and the Zonal Plans with the measures applicable to them, which is being processed by the City of Murcia.
The press conference held by HOSTEMUR last Friday, April 13 is, in our opinion, an unacceptable, unjustified and unfounded coercion to the entire Murcian society and its rulers, based on false data and a particular study, which aims to sow fear with what they have called the "blind", which is nothing more than an apocalyptic and delirious vision of the city of Murcia with all the bars, cafes, restaurants, pubs and discos closed, in case the proposed measures are approved to try to reduce the level of noise suffered by the residents of the center of Murcia.
The neighborhood associations have made allegations that we hope will be taken into account by the Local Government Board when it finally approves the results of the Leisure Noise Map and to establish the measures that will reduce the noise levels we support in the center. Murcia.
But our attitude is diametrically opposed to the one of HOSTEMUR, since, being susceptible of improvement the documents approved initially by the city council, our will is that the process culminates of the most beneficial form for all - neighbors, businessmen and the own city of Murcia -, correcting excesses that are visible and in the hearing of anyone who lives or visits our city.
We are aware that part of the local economy is based on restoration and leisure activities, and how we like to enjoy this activity.
But the representatives of HOSTEMUR must recognize that there are rules to be followed and rights to be respected, such as the protection of health and the environment, personal and family privacy, the inviolability of the home and the right to decent housing, which are declared as fundamental by our Constitution.
It is not our intention to enter into any kind of war with HOSTEMUR, wars do not benefit anyone, but we warn their representatives that the Murcian society is not going to break under threats of business closures and mass dismissal of workers.
We trust in a rectification on the part of the representatives of HOSTEMUR, and that they recover a responsible and conciliadora attitude before the problem of excess of noise that we suffer the neighbors of Murcia.
And that change of attitude must begin by recognizing their responsibility, without excuses such as that the establishments are not responsible for the problem, that the fault is "the people" who are on the street, because those people they talk about they are "their clients", and if they are in a street or plaza it is because they are or move between the establishments of which they are owners.
