The Civil Guard has deployed an extensive alcohol and drug verification device during the Spring Festival 2018 (11/04/2018)

111 drivers have been reported for positive alcohol and another 50 for driving while using drugs

Nearly 4,000 vehicles have been controlled in the vicinity of the capital, of which 75 drivers tested positive for alcohol and 15 for drugs.

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has deployed, during the past week (from April 2 to 8) and coinciding with the Spring Festivities of the capital, a broad simultaneous device to check alcohol and drugs on different roads in the Region of Murcia, in order to comply with the control plan for leisure areas and with the Road Safety Strategy 2010-2020 of the Traffic Department.

In the device, framed in the Operative Plan of Police Response to Traffic and Consumption of drugs in leisure and amusement areas and in the Traffic Safety Strategy 2010-2020 of the General Directorate of Traffic, more than a hundred agents of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Murcia have controlled a total of 5,796 drivers, of which 111 yielded positive results in alcohol (1.91%), nine of which were arrested and brought to court and the 102 remaining reported to the Chief Provincial Traffic of Murcia.

In these controls have also been reported to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters 50 drivers, for having taken drugs or narcotics prohibited and incompatible with driving vehicles (cocaine, cannabis, opiates and amphetamines).

Another 10 people have also been arrested for a crime against road safety, when they were caught driving without having obtained the permit or having lost all the points legally assigned.

In particular, they highlight several devices deployed on the roads near the city of Murcia, destination of many people who gathered there for the celebration of their famous Spring Festival, where they were made almost two thirds of the tests of alcohol and drugs (3,875) of which 75 were positive in alcohol (1.94%), two drivers were arrested for alcohol, which were brought to court, and another 73 people reported to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters Murcia.

Similarly, in these devices 15 drivers were reported for showing positive results in drug use.

With these actions, to continue in the positive line of reduction of the accident rate, the Benemérita persists in raising awareness among the population of the incompatibility of the consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs with the driving of vehicles and thus avoiding the occurrence of traffic accidents, guaranteeing the road safety and the normal development of these multitudinous events, on our roads, in which no significant accident has been recorded in the Region.

Driving a motor vehicle or moped with an alcohol level in exhaled air exceeding 0.60 mg / l, leads to the arrest of the driver, for alleged crime against road safety, punishable by prison terms of 3 to 6 months or fine of 6 to 12 months or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days, and in any case the deprivation of the permit for a period of 1 to 4 years.

Similarly, driving a motor vehicle or moped having lost all of the legally assigned points, entails the arrest of its driver for an alleged crime against road safety, punishable by prison terms of 3 to 6 months or a fine of 6 to 12 months or jobs benefiting the community from 31 to 90 days.

On the other hand the driving of motor vehicles or mopeds with alcohol rates higher than 0.25 mg / l (0.15 mg / l, novice drivers and professionals) and up to 0.60 mg / l, following the recent reform of the Road Safety Law, supposes an economic sanction of up to € 1000 and the loss of up to 6 points of the driving license.

Driving, having ingested drugs or other prohibited substances, may determine the commission of an alleged crime against road safety, or in its case an administrative complaint, sanctioned in the same terms.

In these cases, once the drug screening test for saliva has been carried out, the drivers are obliged to provide a second oral fluid sample for referral to an accredited laboratory and to check the provisional result, in accordance with current regulations.

In all cases, the affected vehicles are immobilized by the Civil Guard until their drivers are able to continue their journey, or when a second person authorized to drive takes over.

Likewise, the Benemérita continues to reiterate its message to those drivers who recklessly and recklessly, despite the campaigns and warnings of the General Directorate of Traffic, drive after having drunk or taken drugs, remembering that, without prejudice to the systematic realization of ordinary or special preventive controls, the mandatory alcohol and drug tests will be carried out on all drivers who are reported for the commission of infractions, involvement in accidents or those in which their consumption is detected in the course of other surveillance activities. inspection carried out, intensifying during the next Fiestas de los Caballos del Vino of Caravaca de la Cruz and WAM Festival of Murcia.
