Murcia City Council participates in a European 'competition' to reduce energy consumption in public buildings (10/04/2018)

The City of Murcia has adhered to a European initiative that aims to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption in municipal buildings.

For this, an energetic competition between buildings of city councils is proposed.

In the case of Murcia, it participates with the administrative buildings of Abenarabi, Plaza de Europa and the Local Development Agency.

The duration of this test covers from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2020.

In this way, the Compete4SECAP project offers 32 European cities, including Murcia, from 8 different countries, the possibility of putting into operation an energy management system through which it is intended to achieve a significant reduction in the consumption of associated primary energy. with the demands of the municipal buildings.

In order to increase these savings, the cities will participate in a competition in which both the savings achieved by each location and their success in the application of this system will be valued.

A collaboration agreement between the City Council, the Promotion Institute of the Region of Murcia, as Regional Coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors, and the company Eurovertice is the framework to develop this initiative and participate in the European project, Compete4SECAP, financed by the HORIZON 2020 program of the European Union.

The municipalities of Ceutí, Cieza and Torres de Cotillas also take part in the agreement.

Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy

Antonio Navarro, Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, recalled that Murcia, through the Municipal Service ALEM, works since 2008 in actions to reduce CO2 emissions at the municipal level, within the framework of the Covenant of Mayors and its Sustainable Energy Action Plan.

In 2016 Murcia adhered to the European Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, with the commitment to work to develop a Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which is already in the process of being completed, and a new Energy Action Plan Sustainable with a horizon until 2030.
