The XXVI Conference of Deans of Arts and Humanities is celebrated in Murcia (10/04/2018)

The Faculties of Letters, Philosophy and Fine Arts of the University of Murcia have organized the XXVI Conference of Deans of Arts and Humanities, which will be attended by some 60 deans and deans from all over Spain.

Among the invited speakers are the philosopher Adela Cortina, professor at the University of Valencia, honorary doctor at the University of Murcia and the first woman member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, and the physicist Antonio Guirao Piñera, a prestigious professor UM researcher.

The Conference brings together all the Faculties of Spanish universities, public and private, which teach degrees in the Arts and Humanities branch, such as the studies of Philology, Philosophy, Geography, History, Translation and Interpretation, Fine Arts, Design, etc.

This meeting is held annually and is rotated by the different Spanish universities.

The XXVI Conference will be held at the University of Murcia on April 12 and 13, and will be attended by the acting rector, Mr. José Orihuela, the rector-elect, Mr. José Luján, and the mayor of Murcia, Mr. José Ballesta.

The Conference will begin on Thursday, April 12, at 8:00 pm, with an official reception in the Plenary Hall of the City of Murcia, and will take place throughout the day of Friday, April 13, in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Letters .

In this meeting, attendees will analyze the problems that affect Arts and Humanities studies, and will try to adopt agreements for the promotion and defense of such studies before public administrations and before Spanish society.

On Friday, there will be four debate tables, which will address different issues: the situation of the Humanities and Arts in the education system;

the problems related to the internationalization, mobility, practices and employability of graduates;

the new approaches and transversality in humanistic and artistic research;

and, finally, some organizational aspects of the Conference itself.

Among the activities organized for attendees from all over Spain, two guided visits are planned: one to the Archaeological Museum of Murcia and another to the historic center of the city and the surroundings of the Cathedral.
