The PSOE regrets that the City Council "does nothing" to bring neighbors from the periphery to the celebrations that take place in the center (05/04/2018)

The Socialist Group, which presented at the Plenary session in March an urgent request for more buses to operate and reinforce the tram service already at Easter and Spring Festival, calls for "a mobility plan according to the needs of the users, which is what works in advanced cities "

Socialist councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa, after presenting at the Plenary Session of the City of Murcia last March a request asking the Consistory to have more buses available to users during the holidays, regrets that the City Council "do nothing" to favor that those who live in the periphery of the city or in the districts can go to the center by public transport to enjoy the holidays.

In this plea it was stated that Murcia still does not have a sufficient public transport network and that during Holy Week and the Spring Festival, for example, it becomes almost impossible to park in the center and traffic collapse multiplies, so that a greater frequency in the public transport and an improvement in the organization of the same one would facilitate that the neighbors and the neighbors of the peripheral districts and of the districts had the same opportunities to participate in the acts that those who live in the city.

In the municipality most of the events organized by the City Council during local festivities are held in the center and many of them at night and on weekends, which is precisely when fewer buses operate and with a frequency of passage that It is not according to the demand.

"If we want all Murcia and Murcia can approach the city to participate in their parties, we must take an example of other municipalities and cities that already extend the lines and frequencies of bus and tram to bring the holidays to all citizens," says Larrosa, who believes that what happens with public transport in the municipality "is not receipt."

Therefore, to extend the frequency of buses and the tram during the holidays in the municipality of Murcia, especially at night and on weekends, and so that the measures applied in that sense are duly informed to the public through the communication channels available to the City Council and in the media, as well as on the part of the transport companies of these travelers, the Socialist Group presented its request as a matter of urgency, before the celebration of Holy Week and the Spring Festival.

However, the frequency of buses is the same and even in some cases there are fewer vehicles available, which is far from representing "a real mobility plan that is in line with the needs of users, which is what works in the advanced cities ", maintains the councilor of the PSOE.

"We have a Festival of International Interest and a public transport that does not deserve the seventh provincial capital of the country." No self-respecting municipality can discriminate against more than half of the population of their municipality, which is what happens in Murcia , because the team led by José Ballesta leaves more than 60% of its inhabitants aside ", adds Larrosa, who recalls that" from the Socialist Group we have been with that demand for years, but the reality is that we continue to suffer scenes like those of the vehicles parked in the Malecón and deteriorating the environment ".

"You have to put a solution before the problem is generated, but the mayor is more concerned about taking pictures than solving the real problems of the municipality and is more interested in a floral sculpture than the public transport of the residents of the districts", concludes the edil of the PSOE.
