Social Rights uses urban art to favor integration in adolescents (26/02/2018)

The aim is to promote the approach of teenagers to the world of graffiti, to know techniques, enabled spaces and to raise awareness of respect for heritage. The best 'graffiti artists' will participate in the creation of a mural during the Children's Rights Week

The Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation of the City of Murcia, Conchita Ruiz, presented this morning the urban art project 13-17, a workshop for teenagers who currently participate in the municipal program of the same name.

Project 13-17 is being carried out with the participation of 300 adolescents, distributed in 27 groups throughout the municipality.

An initiative that is launched with the Office of Graffiti, in collaboration with Ferrovial Services.

"What we intend is to offer alternatives to leisure time to participating adolescents, enhancing their expressiveness, creativity and skills through their artistic expression, being able to prevent future risk behaviors and at the same time awakening their artistic sensibility," the councilor explained. .

The objective is to expand the centers of interest of adolescents, educating in creative leisure and respect for the heritage of our city.

Raise awareness of respect for both public and private properties and the consequences that may result from not respecting these spaces.

To this end, a program has been structured, consisting of lectures on graffiti, practical and theoretical activities, visits to the murals made in the municipality and practices on the street.

The project will have a total duration of 60 hours.

In the first place, the talks will be given by the specialized monitors in this type of art, informing and raising awareness to differentiate between urban art and vandalism.

The talk will consist of two parts, the first with the aim of raising awareness of the necessary care of the environment and the heritage of the city, while the second will be taught by the local artist Nels on history, spaces or techniques related to this urban art.

As for the practical sessions, the necessary materials for the development of the graffiti will be known as well as basic aspects to be taken into account for its realization (previous design, structure of the drawing, delineation and cleaning.) The elaboration and design of adapted sketches will be analyzed. to integrated urban elements within the urban environment

Finally, during the practices in the street, a cello mural will be placed so that the participants can capture on a canvas the sketch worked in the previous sessions.

Guided tours of the murals made in the back of the FREMM and the mural made in the cultural center gates of Castilla by the international artist Eduardo Kobra will also be carried out.

During the duration of the course, the monitors will observe the participants to choose a group that during the week of the rights of the children realize a great mural.

At the end of the workshops there will be a delivery ceremony where each student will receive a diploma for their participation in the workshops.

On the same day, the name of the chosen and chosen ones will be announced for the realization of the great mural with the OMG artists.
