Mayor Ballesta assumes the coordination of the great strategic projects of transformation of the city (22/02/2018)

The districts gain prominence in the new organizational chart of the Local Government, whose responsibilities assumes Marco Antonio Fernandez, who today has taken possession as Councilman of the City Council.

Rebeca Pérez, Spokesperson of the Government Team and second Lieutenant Mayor, will be responsible for infrastructure, works and public services.

José Guillén becomes the first Lieutenant Mayor, responsible for innovation and the information society, Smart Cities and urban development, while water competitions unite with the environment and the garden.

The Mayor, José Ballesta, assumes directly the coordination of the major strategic transformation projects of Murcia that will allow the construction of a new city model.

This is reflected in the organizational chart of powers of the Government Team whose decree was signed this morning by the Mayor, following the incorporation of Marco Antonio Fernández to the Municipal Corporation.

In this way, the Mayor has decided to deal personally with the actions promoted by this Corporation, arising from citizen participation and protected by the Social Council of the City.

Specifically, it will promote the management of the Murcia River projects, recovery of the San Esteban site and its surroundings, the Old Prison, the pedestrianization of Alfonso X and the construction of the greenway from Alquerías to Los Dolores.

The remodeling of powers also denotes a greater role for the districts, whose delegation assumes Marco Antonio Fernandez, who today has taken office as City Councilman.

With experience as president of municipal board after 8 years at the head of this body in Monteagudo, the new mayor has the knowledge and ability to take charge of the Department of Pedanías, Participation and Decentralization.

It includes, among other responsibilities, the planning and coordination of the districts, the Pediatric Office, the promotion of citizen participation with public and private entities and the coordination of districts.

José Guillén has been appointed first Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Modernization of Urban Administration and Development.

In his area he will be responsible for the Murcia Smart City project and the coordination of the actions included in the process of modernization, innovation and use of new information and communication technologies, as well as the management of human resources, attention to the citizen and the urban development of the city, especially in the improvement of parks and gardens.

Second Lieutenant Mayor and Spokesperson of the Government Team is Rebeca Pérez who, in addition to maintaining the competencies of Youth, assumes from today the management of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services with the responsibility of planning and executing actions and works of conservation and improvement of public roads and roads throughout the municipality, in addition to lighting, the cleaning service and management of urban solid waste and the Graffiti office.

Maruja Pelegrín continues exercising the skills of Commerce, Organization and Institutional Relations, which include the municipal policy of support for trade and SMEs, consumer protection, statistics and street services and general services.

She has also been appointed third Lieutenant Mayor.

Water becomes part of the Department of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden, giving unity to the policies of sustainability and against climate change along with water, both in terms of maintenance and conservation of the traditional garden and the supply , sanitation and water purification, as well as the secondment of the Aguas de Murcia Municipal Company.

Antonio Navarro is also fourth Lieutenant Mayor.

The actions related to urban mobility are taken on by Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, fifth Lieutenant Mayor, who adds to his current powers those of transport, taking charge of the improvements of bus, taxi and tram services and the development of the Mobility Plan Sustainable Urban

Lola Sánchez continues as the sixth deputy mayor, with competences in Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, in the same way that Felipe Coello continues to lead the Sports and Health areas.

The economic promotion, tourism, culture, museums, archives, celebrations, European programs and the development of the projects of the DUSI strategy corresponds to Jesús Pacheco, who from now on also takes charge of the actions on public roads, as much as to the authorizations of tables, chairs, kiosks, processions, bicycle races, festivals, concerts, etc., as well as to the coordination of the work groups that are constituted for the authorization of the use of public roads when events of singular importance are held .

For its part, Conchita Ruiz incorporates development cooperation to its competencies in social services, dependency care, immigration, seniors, family and children, people with disabilities, volunteering and equality.

Likewise, Rafael Gómez maintains the management related to education, the conservation and maintenance of early childhood education centers, the offer of activities to schoolchildren, as well as the network of libraries and nursery schools, together with relations with universities and competencies related to municipal heritage and local housing policy.
