Organized a new guided tour of the cemetery of Nuestro Padre Jesús to know the history of the city through its tombs and pantheons (20/02/2018)

in the past six occasions more than 160 people have participated |

On March 11, at 11 am, there will be a new guided tour in the cemetery of Nuestro Padre Jesús that will allow you to discover the history of the city through its tombs and pantheons, where there are currently about 160,000 people buried.

The objective is to incorporate 'the city of the dead' to 'the city of the living', integrating the cemetery as cultural heritage of the municipality for its aesthetic, historical, ethnographic and anthropological value.

The activity is part of the agreement signed between the City Council and the University of Murcia, together with the Murcian Society of Anthropology, and with it is intended to value the cemetery, being a reason for study and protection.

In this way, knowledge about the past that houses this cemetery is promoted, as well as activities and informative publications that encourage the analysis of its cultural history, highlighting illustrious characters whose remains are deposited there.

So far three guides have been published available on www.ayuntamientomurcia-salud.es, which serve as support to participate in the routes.

The first of them is about the same cemetery as a cultural asset, the second about writers and artists;

and the third is a compendium that gathers members of the economic and political elite of the 19th century, such as Salvador Marín-Baldo Fullea, mayor of Murcia, Tomás Erades Almodóvar, banker and businessman, or Francisco Peńa Vaquero, Industrial.

The professors of the Faculty of Anthropology and authors of the guides are Pedro Martínez Cavero and Klaus Schriewer.

So far there have been 6 visits with more than 160 participants.

The next visit, in which 5 to 25 people can participate, will be held on Sunday, March 11.

Those interested can register by calling 968 358600, ext.
