Investment of 44 million euros to improve the electricity supply in the southern area of ​​Murcia (13/02/2018)

Some 300,000 people of the municipality will benefit from this new infrastructure of Red Eléctrica de España that improves the quality, reliability and security of the electricity supply;

serving both population centers and future industrial developments

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the Minister of Employment, Universities and Business, Juan Hernández, the regional delegate of the Eastern Zone of Red Eléctrica, María Teresa Vela, and the general director of Red Eléctrica, Eva Pagán, inaugurated this morning the substation of electric transport Murcia 220 KV, which has involved an investment of 44.3 million euros by Red Eléctrica de España.

The Murcia substation will allow the contribution, from the transport network to the distribution network, of the energy necessary to guarantee the supply of the current demand of the southern area of ​​the municipality, as well as future developments, improving the quality and reliability of the electricity supply in the municipality of Murcia.

It is fed by a 220 kV double circuit underground line and 8.3 km from the El Palmar substation.

José Ballesta said that "the southern area of ​​the municipality of Murcia, which can reach some 300,000 people, is going to benefit from this new infrastructure that improves efficiency, efficiency and, above all, the security of electricity supply;

serving both population centers and future industrial developments, thus ensuring equal opportunities in our territory. "

State-of-the-art security

It is an armored installation, of new generation and located inside a building.

This technology needs less space and offers greater reliability and safety than a conventional substation.

Iberdrola, through its distribution subsidiary, has allocated more than 5 million euros to the construction and commissioning of the 20 kV medium voltage substation system.

The Murcia substation has an initial installed capacity of 100 megavolt (MVA), expandable to 150 MVA, enough to provide the service to more than 300,000 people.

These new infrastructures contribute to Murcia having a modern, safe and reliable electricity network, with sufficient power to enable its economic development in the coming years.
