Orihuela takes stock of his management at the head of the UMU Rector's Office (12/02/2018)

The rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), José Orihuela, met on Monday with representatives of social media to take stock of what they have been these past four years at the head of this institution.

During the meeting, which was held in the canteen of the Merced campus, Orihuela was particularly pleased with the boost given to the research activity, giving as an example the investment to finance the plan itself, which has tripled.

The report of its management, which will be posted on the UMU website for everyone's knowledge, contains extensive information on the main activities carried out within teaching, research, international mobility, the call for places for both the PDI as for the PAS, and others.

Within the offer of a quality education, which he said was one of his main objectives since he arrived at the Rectorate, the commented that the 68 masters have gone to 71, and the doctorates, from 24 to 35.

He also made reference to the new internationalization scholarship policy, to the normative changes, to the impulse of the own studies and to the start-up of the UMU headquarters in different municipalities, that with the one that will be inaugurated this Thursday in Blanca, they will be over thirty.

It has also highlighted the implementation of 111 teacher innovation groups, which bring together more than 400 teachers.

He also emphasized the importance given to ethical behavior, as evidenced by the approval of the UMU's Code of Ethics and transparency.

The transfer of knowledge, the infrastructures with which the buildings destined for research have been endowed, the office of the single point, the activities of volunteering and the attention to the disability have been other subjects contemplated by Orihuela in its report.

As regards the actions directed to the PAS, the rector has highlighted, among others, those referred to the recovery of the full-time interns and the improvement of working conditions, which have benefited more than four hundred workers.

On the other hand, it has referred to the places called for teaching and research staff, which have also been given special interest.

As for the UMU Budgets, has indicated that it has gone from the 178 million euros that reached the 2014 to 215 million of the current year, with an increase of 21 percent.

Referring to the infrastructure and sustainability chapter, the institution's top leader has alluded to the investments made at the Health Sciences campus in El Palmar, where the first stone of the building for classrooms was recently placed.

He has not forgotten to remember the main actions carried out in the Campus of Excellence Mare Nostrum, in the International University of the Sea and in the cultural area.

Other issues that have merited attention have been those related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sports, mobility and relations with the Autonomous Community.

About the latter, he commented that after the inauguration of the course, at the national level, by the King, there was a turning point, and with the new government, everything improved, creating mutual trust.

He also referred to the management carried out both in the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and in the Student Sector, which he himself has chaired until now.
