The CEIP Virgin of the Fertile valley of Cobatillas introduces activities with dogs for students with educational needs (12/02/2018)

The Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage of the City of Murcia, Rafael Gómez, attended this morning the conference "Dogs and Letters" given at the CEIP Virgen de la Vega de Cobatillas.

A talk framed within the project of inclusion of animals as therapy, given the need to give a different educational response to students with educational needs of the center and which is carried out in collaboration with Project READ.

The goal is not like that of "awakening the motivation and connection of children with educational needs of the center with the world around them through animals, something that is achieving really positive results," the councilor explained.

The program consists of individual sessions of 20 minutes, once a week, where the child, dog (Pani) and READ therapist carry out an activity of reading stimulation stimulating multiple senses.

In this way, "the children in these sessions forget that they are being watched by an adult, they are the ones who become teachers and they have to teach Pani how to read a story, the child is the true protagonist of his own learning" .
