The Municipal Socialist Group has demanded in writing information to the Department of Finance "clear and truthful" about the rate and costs of garbage collection in the municipality of Murcia in order that "we can drive away uncertainties about what they pay the citizens are adjusted equitably to the value of the service provided, "explains Councilman Sebastián Peñaranda.
The request for reports arises after knowing a study carried out at the University of Murcia that concludes that at least 40% of Murcia municipalities get surplus by charging the neighbors above what it costs the municipal coffers to provide the service.
Precisely, "so that our neighbors are clear that they are paying for the fair value of garbage collection we ask for the previous economic reports for the approval of the rate," the councilor points out.
In this regard, Peñaranda adds that in this study the municipality of Murcia is within that percentage of 40%, which means an extra cost of 8 euros per citizen, "so that if this is the case we must readjust the rate to the cost" and remember that, according to the Law Regulating the Local Taxes, the amount of the fees for the provision of a service or the performance of an activity may not exceed the cost of the service or activity or the value of the benefit received.
Peñaranda warns that it is not about asking for a reduction in the rate if it is not justified, "but to clarify and demand the transparency that our neighbors deserve and that our City Council must provide each service, each contract and each management "
In addition to the technical economic report necessary to calculate the rate, the councilor has also requested the report sent to the Ministry of Finance on the actual costs of each of the services on November 1 of the last four years.
