Murcia needs a comprehensive railway infrastructure plan (05/02/2018)

We have been attending, for almost 150 days, daily protests at the level crossing of Santiago el Mayor, not only residents of affected neighborhoods, but throughout the region, on account of the decision to complete the work of entry to Murcia of the AVE on the surface, instead of being buried as planned.

As a result, several neighborhoods will be isolated from the rest of the city by replacing the level crossing with a wall, among other consequences, such as the loss of commuter lines.

It is necessary to emphasize that it is a political decision;

the planning of the work always had a section of buried entrance in the urban core of Murcia thus eliminating the obsolete level steps in urban land.

However, the rush of the Popular Party to inaugurate this infrastructure, since it is who holds the power of both the municipal, regional and national governments, has led to the change of plans.

It has not been that long since regional PP charges went out to the streets, defending together with the citizenship that the train arrived buried;

however, they have preferred to position themselves with their party, against the interests of the population they represent.

That is why we demand from UPYD to take a realistic and joint examination of the current situation.

The focus should be broadened: it is not a problem of specific neighborhoods, it is a problem that affects the entire region.

We have a very important work still without a completion date, as is the Camarillas variant.

The northern area of our region needs this important infrastructure to be able to have railway communication of this century.

The arrival of the AVE to Murcia by Alicante in nothing benefits these regions.

We also have the Mediterranean corridor, which will link us with Valencia and Almeria.

With the current design, the transport of dangerous goods will circulate through a road a few meters from the buildings of our capital, we know an unfeasible solution.

And after the station of El Carmen the road continues through the urban area of Murcia and Alcantarilla towards Lorca.

A global solution is essential, evaluating all these points as a whole, and in this way not continue to invest public money, which is so expensive to collect, to undertake work that is not very profitable and that in a short time will have to be dismantled to undertake the final project.

As I said initially, it is a political problem, and it is the politicians who must solve it.

Neither the regional government is knowing how to defend the interests of the region before the Minister of Serna nor the consistory has been with the neighbors, the true victims of this situation.

Unfortunately, the current opposition has not been up to par and has allowed the Popular Party to be perpetuated both in the Glorieta and in San Esteban, against the general interest of Murcia;

Perhaps they do so thinking of their own electoral interest, propitiating the erosion of the government, but as the president of the Pro-Soterramiento platform, Joaquín Contreras, said, they are complicit in this nonsense.
