Marina Aboal, new board member of the International Phycological Society (02/02/2018)

Marina Aboal Sanjurjo, Professor of Botany at the University of Murcia, has become the second Spanish member to be part of the Board of Directors of the International Phycological Society, the international company dedicated to the study of algae.

"It is a great honor for me and for the Spanish Ficology".

"From the Board we will try to reactivate the International Society of Ficology to adapt to the current demands of phycologists in a world of rapid changes and major environmental problems."

This institution, created in 1960 and based in California, has counted among its board of directors with the most important phycologists around the world.

His dedication is focused on the development of fiction, the distribution of information related to it and international cooperation between experts and organizations operating in that discipline.

For its part, the main researcher of the group Biology and Ecology of Algae and the rest of the researchers with whom it works in the Algology Laboratory of UMU, are addressing marine biodiversity, the toxicity produced by certain groups of algae and the use of biological indicators through several recently published articles, among which the study of the genus Chroothece in the Chícamo river (Abanilla) or the research on the benthic diatoms of the hypersaline coastal lagoon of the Mar Menor stand out.
