Now Murcia will ask in the Plenary the creation of pediatric emergencies in the hospitals Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer (01/02/2018)

NOW MURCIA will ask in the Plenary Session of the City Council the creation of Pediatric Emergency Services in the Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer Hospitals, "given that currently they only exist in the Arrixaca".

Alicia Morales underlines "the evident deficit that means having only Pediatric Emergencies, since in addition to serving the entire municipality, they cover three hospital areas with 700,000 people and 116,000 children, which will increase by 25,000 more as the Coverage age until age 14, as planned. "

Now Murcia will also propose at the next Plenary that while these pediatric emergencies are being implemented in both hospitals, the Ministry of Health creates an Outpatient Pediatric Emergency Service in the municipality in the afternoon, night and weekend hours.

The lack of Emergency Services of Primary Care in the municipality, whose increase has been requested in other motions and, above all, the fact that two of the three general hospitals of the municipality do not have pediatric emergency services, "are absolutely inadmissible and they make families only have a service where they can go in case of emergencies in children, forcing displacements that, both in time and in distance, suppose in some cases aggravations of symptoms, uncertainty and concern in families ".

The spokeswoman of Now Murcia emphasizes that although the situation of the pediatric emergencies "is especially bleeding, all the endowment of sanitary resources in the municipality is manifestly insufficient, causing a situation that affects the citizens throughout the year and that becomes unsustainable in the periods in which the pressure increases, as during the winter flu epidemic. "

Morales points out that "the out-of-hospital pediatric emergencies that we demand would facilitate immediate urgent assistance and reduce distances and time for families, while at the same time, they would mean a decrease in the pressure of care that the Arrixaca Pediatric Emergency Service suffers."

As for the new services in the Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer hospitals, he points out that "they would be coordinated with the Arrixaca Emergency Department".

The mayor states that "the saturation of emergency services, health centers and hospitals in the municipality is not coincidental or is timely, is clearly the result of low investment, lack of planning and the lack of adaptation of health resources to the population and the geographical characteristics of the municipality ".

Alicia Morales recalls that "the expansion of the Pediatric Emergency Service of La Arrixaca was inaugurated in October 2017, increasing space and material means, but not the necessary personnel, which caused really unfortunate situations for sick children and their families, how do you wait for up to 12 hours or children and parents sitting?

He points out that this situation was also disastrous "for health professionals who worked in the service, which were not reinforced until days later, due to pressure from families, the Medical Union, the Health Users Association and the School of Health Doctors. "

"The enormous effort and work of health professionals," he concludes, "should be reflected in the allocation of resources and effective planning of these, with sufficient space and staff for professionals to perform their essential work without going overwhelmed."
