Nearly 2,000 secondary and high school students will learn practices for the proper use of water resources during 2018 (01/02/2018)

The Councilor for Education, Relations with Universities and Heritage, Rafael Gómez, accompanied this morning the students of the IES Alfonso X El Sabio in his visit to the facilities of the ETAP La Contraparada is owned by the Municipal Supply and Sanitation Company of Murcia , SA EMUASA - Aguas de Murcia.

It is the Water Treatment Plant located next to the Segura River, in Javalí Viejo (Murcia), which has a nominal treatment capacity of 2,000 m3 / h, which is used to supply the city of Murcia and districts, with the average daily flow approximately 1200 m3 / h.

This is an activity framed within the program "My city teaches", which "aims to know the operation of a water treatment plant, water resources and learn the proper use of them, and what they do, something really important given the shortage water that we suffer in our Region ", explained Rafael Gómez.

The visit to the Contraparada ETAP has been divided into two: a theoretical part with a presentation about the purpose of said installation.

The difference between the Natural Cycle and the Urban Cycle has been explained, and the purification process that takes place has been developed: Oxidation, clarification and disinfection.

A process that depends on the characteristics of the environment and the quality of the water to be treated in each place.

Subsequently they have gone through the different dependencies, oxidation chambers, reagents, decantation and filters, where in situ where they have been able to observe and understand this process, as well as the works that are developed in parallel even when they are not part of said treatment.

These are: the energy recovery plant, the sludge treatment, the pilot plant and the Bivitox Project.

The visit lasts two hours and takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 12:00 and has a subsidized transport service.

It is oriented for the 3rd and 4th grades of primary and 1st and 2nd year of the baccalaureate.
