The works of the Alameda de las Cuatro Piedras, the entrance gate of'Murcia Río' through the Malecón (01/02/2018)

This green space for family leisure and sports will offer a privileged visual panoramic view of the Segura from the Paseo del Malecón, hitherto unpublished.

The new mall will have more than fifty large trees and an intelligent lighting and irrigation management system.

José Ballesta: "One of the main lines of the city project 'Murcia Río' is to integrate and connect the landscape and the routes on foot and by bicycle between the river and the Malecón".

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, José Guillén, visited today the works that are being carried out in the Alameda de las Cuatro Piedras within the city project 'Murcia Río ', a performance that will connect the Paseo del Malecon with the Segura mote through a green path for family and sports leisure.

"It is the entrance door of 'Murcia River' through the Malecón, a connection between the urban and the natural that respects the orography of this environment so transited by the Murcians, and that will offer a privileged visual panorama of the Segura from the Paseo del Malecón, which until now was unprecedented, "said the mayor, who added that" the new mall will have more than fifty large trees and an intelligent system of lighting and irrigation management. "

The works, which have a budget of 142,000 euros, are being carried out in the municipal plot of 3,000 m2 and will end in mid-April.

The mayor proceeded today to plant the first poplar of the Cuatro Pidras.

"One of the main lines of the Murcia River project is to integrate and connect the landscape and the walking and cycling routes of the River and the Malecón.

For this, in addition to running this project in the Four Stones, we have written the project of the garden of the Alameda, next to the Marist school, which is about to be awarded and that will not be an urban garden to use, but a riverbank forest open to the recreational use of all Murcia, "announced José Ballesta.

White poplars and mulberry trees by the river

The project includes the planting of native trees of the Segura riverbank.

Specifically, 50 specimens of white poplars and a dozen mulberry varieties traditionally used in the Huerta de Murcia (Cristiana, Macocana and Valenciana).

To save the difference in level between the plot and the north and south accesses, pedestrian routes with shrub species on terraces are being executed.

These trails will have stairs along which various ramps run, thus ensuring accessibility for all.

The pedestrian junction between the Paseo del Malecón and the left bank of the river is made through a path that runs between the area of the mulberry trees and ends up meeting the existing pedestrian and cyclist route on the mote of the channeling.

Recovery of the ditch of 'La Arboleja'

In order for the regeneration of this space to be as natural as possible and integrated with the surroundings, the existence of the 'La Arboleja' irrigation ditch has been used, which in its final stretch reached these lands.

This action involves the recovery of this traditional irrigation canal that will be reconstructed and can be seen uncovered in the plot, while ensuring the irrigation of the plantations carried out.

Smart management of irrigation and lighting

Within the Murcia Smart City projects, the Alameda de las Cuatro Piedras will have an intelligent irrigation management system, through the installation of sensors that will take data relative to the temperature and humidity of the environment, which contributes to saving water and the immediate detection of leaks in the network.

Likewise, the public lighting network of this large connecting garden between the Malecón and the river will be managed automatically.

The luminaries will remain off or in low consumption mode and, when detecting the presence of pedestrians, will activate and increase the intensity of the light.

Murcia Río: materializing a City Project

This action is part of 'Murcia Río', the structuring project of the most important municipality for the coming years, which affects the 27 km of the Segura channel and an area of 250,000 m2.

In addition to the works that are being executed in the Cuatro Piedras, the remodeling of the Alameda del Malecón garden will begin in the coming weeks, with an estimated budget of one million euros and an area of 20,000 m2.

Of the actions culminated this past year highlights the bike lane that runs through the lower part of the river bed, in a length of 1.8 km.

that allows to cross the city pedestrianly and in bicycle, between the Bridge of Manterola and the Auditorium;

as well as the lighting project of the riverbed as it passes through the City.

"We are beginning to reap the first fruits of the joint work we are doing, with concrete actions that are already materializing and place us a little closer to our goal: the social and landscape recovery of the river as it passes through the heart of Murcia, for the enjoyment of all, "said the mayor.
