The Cultural College of San Isidro, now the Cascales Institute, has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest. (24/01/2018)

TheGovernment Council has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, the decree by declaring Cultural Interest Property (BIC), with the category of monument, the building of the former College of Theologians of San Isidro, current headquarters of the Institute of Secondary Education 'Licenciado Francisco Cascales' of Murcia.

The declaration responds to the outstanding role played by the building in the configuration of the historic facade of the city of Murcia, as well as its remarkable architectural entity, representative of the regional architecture of the eighteenth century.

It also highlights the cultural value that has represented for the Region the establishment in this building of the Provincial Institute of Second Education and the relevance of the teaching function developed since the eighteenth century.

It is a building of clean lines, in brick, and cover made of quarry, with a semicircular arch framed by a lintel, on which stands out the balcony crowned by a curved split pediment and the heraldic shields of Cardinal Belluga and Felipe V.

The northeast façade of the building presents a sober articulation in neoclassical language, with the ground floor in stonework and adintelada cover crowned by balcony, again flanked by the heraldic shields.

In the interior, despite the successive reforms, interesting spaces are preserved, such as the central courtyard, also in exposed brick and articulated on the ground floor by round arches between Tuscan pilasters, as well as the main staircase in marble, with railing abalaustrada in wood and tile base, corridors and arches on the ground floor and the auditorium.

Regarding the movable property that it comprises and that constitute an essential part of its history, the set of canvases made for the former College of Theologians are considered as linked elements;

some works of great interest that represent the eighteenth-century pictorial set although they are not currently located in the building: San Isidoro, San Felipe Neri, The transit of San Alejo, St. Charles Borromeo, Jesus Redentor Mundi, Sorrowful Virgin, St. Irene and San Francisco Javier (Vicente English), San Juan Nepomuceno (José Antonio Pérez Truyol) and El sueño de San José (attributed to Mateo Gilarte).
