Researchers of the UMU receive the XXII TEA Ediciones Edition "Nicolás Seisdedos" (19/01/2018)

The Innova Q educational innovation group of the University of Murcia obtains the highest national recognition in psychometry thanks to its PREDISCAL project, a set of questionnaires to detect possible reading and mathematical difficulties.

In this project, the UMU professors Violeta Pina Paredes, José Antonio Rabadán Rubio, Javier Fenollar Cortés, Lorenzo Hernández Pallarés and Encarnación Hernández Pérez have completed a questionnaire that serves as a screening test for the detection of reading difficulties and mathematical processes.

The winning research is part of a broader agreement signed in 2016 by the University of Murcia, through the innovation team Innova Q, and the Ministry of Education of the Autonomous Community, with the aim of assisting in the early arrest of the students with specific learning difficulties.

From this contract, three lines of research were developed: baremar the ENFEN test (Neuropsychological Evaluation of the Executive Functions in Children) used in the region for students from 12 to 16 years old, establish a diagnostic approach tool for the TDH, and finally to detect difficulties in reading comprehension and fluency and mathematics through the PREDISCAL project.

The latter becomes a tool for diagnostic approximation for children with difficulties in reading, comprehension, reading fluency and calculus, aimed at students from 2nd to 6th grade of Primary Education.

Through the elaborated questionnaires, they must complete a series of sentences with gaps and with different words that serve as options that help to complete the sentences.

"Depending on the number of correct answers students will have a good, regular or poor understanding, which would have to deepen the tests to make a diagnosis of whether it is simply a matter of spelling or becomes a major problem such as dyslexia , but it will help us to orientate ourselves to deepen the study "specifies José A. Rabadán Rubio, head of the Innova-Q Teaching Innovation Group and of this project.

With all this, this project has met all the requirements assessed by the jury to opt for the most relevant psychometric award at the national level: originality, applicability, interest and practical use.

These are the main characteristics that have made it prevail over the rest of the inscriptions.

A surprise for the researchers, who sent their work last summer without any hope.

"About a month ago, the general director of TEA called me and informed me that they had granted us the prize unanimously.

The TEA awards are held every year at the national level in order to give recognition to the research and development of tests and other psychological instruments in Spanish.

Last December they went to Madrid where the prizes were awarded during the 'IV Conference of Excellence and Innovation in Psychology'.

The event was held under the auspices of the General Council of Psychology, the Conference of Deans of Psychology of the Spanish Universities and the FIAP.

From now on, after the recognition, the work of this team focuses on marketing this tool throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
