The Municipal Office of Graffiti this year will make twelve large-scale murals in Murcia and districts (18/01/2018)

The Councilor for Development, Roque Ortiz, has presented this morning a new initiative of the Municipal Office of Graffiti that will allow the creation of twelve large-scale murals in Murcia and districts.

The activity will consist in the realization of murals in walls of great dimensions by the different districts and districts of the municipality.

To this end, the councilor has made "an appeal to all municipal boards, communities of owners, associations, groups, schools and other interested agencies to make their proposals available walls to the Municipal Office of Graffiti."

The dimensions of the spaces have to be of approximately 6 meters in height or more, and 6 meters or more in width.

The works to be developed, which will be done by both local and international artists, will be within the lines of work of each artist, trying to thematize as much as possible the type of work with the environment.

With this initiative it is tried to reach the great majority of the districts and districts of the municipality that still do not count on great murals adding like this to those already realized in San Basilio (Kobra and murals of the FREMM);

Santa Eulalia (Urban DNA Murals);

Los Garres (participatory mural in collaboration with the Municipal Board);

Corvera (participatory mural Municipal board) and Nonduermas (mural 25 Open de Nonduermas).

As the first activity of the year 2018 of the OMG, there will be an artistic intervention and cleaning in the crossing of Enrique Villar with Murcian Painters, in which representatives of the local collective 'Dripping', will decorate the entire brick wall seen the community of owners.

Thus, they will realize a mural PopArt style, very related to the environment and motivated by the proximity to the Circus Theater of Murcia.

This intervention, of more than 20 meters in length, will replace the current vandalic graffiti with an artistic mural, in which eight artists will participate.

After the intervention, will proceed to the elimination of other vandalism graffiti detected in this environment and apply a treatment that prevents the urination of dogs on all walls of the area.

Ortiz pointed out that "our main objective is to convert degraded spaces or canvases into authentic works of art, thereby giving the municipality a cultural value and tourist attraction".

The councilor announced that "currently the OMG is working on the first guide of the open-air museum in Murcia, which will be available soon." It will consist of a map of the city with the location of each of the murals made with its corresponding photography and small description of the work and its author "

Likewise, the Municipal Graffiti Office will continue during the current year, carrying out other actions and collaborations, carrying out workshops with the Department of Social Rights, participation in youth events such as Murcia se Mueve or the WAM festival ...

In addition, awareness-raising talks will continue to be held in institutes whose registration period to request them remains open.

These talks are completely free and can be requested by any secondary school by writing an email to oficina.grafiti@ayto-murcia.es or charlas@murciaciudadsostenible.es or by calling the number 685140669.
