Change Murcia asks the City Council to demand the stoppage of work with heavy machinery in the Segura river (17/01/2018)

Cambiemos Murcia today requested the government team to demand the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS) the "immediate arrest" of the cleaning of cane with heavy machinery that has been carried out since last month from the interior of the Segura riverbed, in the section between La Contraparada and the Santa Bárbara factory. The municipal training has made this request after the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE) denounced the damages that these works, made with a rotating machine of great tonnage in the bed of the river, are generating on the banks in the form of erosion and compaction, and the aquatic biological communities. Ginés Mirón, a member of San Ginés and a member of the Huerta group and Model of Ciudad de Cambiemos Murcia, pointed out that this action, which is "totally invasive" of the ecosystems of the area and does not have a prior impact study, add the consequences of "unjustified dredging"

icados "in the stretch of the river as it passes through the city of Murcia.

Both works show, in the words of Mirón, "that we are facing a way of understanding the river by certain administrations and their managers not as a natural channel but as a simple aqueduct that lacks life on which you can act in any way "

In addition, it has called attention to the "contradiction" that means that "a few meters from where this machinery is working, projects are being carried out aimed at returning its environmental wealth to the river by means of the reforestation of meanders and slopes with autochthonous vegetation".

Faced with this type of "uncoordinated and even contradictory actions", Murcia Change has considered that all actions developed in the environment of the Segura are made in accordance with a project of environmental recovery of the channel, agreed between the administrations and citizens.
