The number of unemployed was reduced last year by 8.7% in Murcia, standing at an average value of 32,716 people, the lowest since 2009, when registered unemployment was 31,021 people.

The data contrasts with those that occurred in 2012, 2013 and 2014, years in which the figure of 40,000 unemployed in the municipality was exceeded.

According to the analysis that can be consulted in the website of the City Council www.murciaencifras.es, the decrease was more pronounced among men (-12.5%) and the decrease occurred in all age groups.

In such a way that male unemployment stood at the end of 2017 at 13.63%, the lowest figure in the whole series, which between 2010 and 2014 did not manage to fall below 20%.

As for female unemployment, despite being higher, it has also fallen below 5.8% and ended last year with the lowest figure since 2012.

On the other hand, the population group between 25 and 44 years has achieved the largest decrease in the series of the last 9 years, so that it closed 2017 with the best figure of almost a decade.

The 14.5% registered now is ten points less than the level reached in 2012 and 2013, when they exceeded 24.3%.

Also young people, under 25 years, have improved their employment.

Up to 2014 the percentage exceeded 4%, while last year it remained below 3%.

On the other hand, unemployment among those over 45 years stands at 15.2%, the lowest figure since 2013.

All these indicators' confirm that we are moving in the right direction to boost job creation, achieve the reduction of unemployment and promote the improvement of the labor market ', said the Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, who highlights' work and the effort of the business sector, without whose intervention it would be impossible to talk about these data '.

Regarding the employment promotion policies of the City Council, Pacheco said that "we will continue to work hand in hand with the different municipal parties to achieve this common goal."
