The excavation that is being carried out in the Madre de Dios street for the installation of underground containers requested by the neighbors to the Department of Public Works, is being carried out, as is usual in the historic center, an archaeologist with the supervision of the archaeologist municipal and the General Directorate of Cultural Assets.
Currently, work is being done to dismantle the structure to conserve what is determined to be of interest, such as the found jar that is already bagged and stored.
Thus, the usual archaeological process of dismantling the most modern elements to access the oldest ones is being followed.
Initially the underground containers were going to be installed in an area closer to the Gran Vía but the installations of a multitude of services changed the location, no archaeological remains having appeared on the excavated levels, according to the archaeologist who supervised the works.
Now it will be the General Directorate of Cultural Property that determines and establishes the guidelines to be followed.
