Murcia City Council receives the 'Transformation 2017' award from the European network CIVITAS (09/01/2018)

The Action Plan of the Bicycle or the Local Strategy of the electric vehicle are some of the works carried out by the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Garden to promote sustainable mobility in Murcia This network of European cities (CIVITAS) aims to improve and make transport and urban mobility more sustainable in cities

The Department of Urbanism, Environment and Garden, begins this year remembering the prize "Transformation" 2017 that gave the European network CIVITAS to the City of Murcia.

The councilor in charge of these competitions, Antonio Navarro, has declared that "CIVITAS is a network formed by European cities that aims to work together to improve and make more sustainable transport and urban mobility in the cities that are part of The network was created by the European Commission in 2002 and has so far enabled more than 800 urban transport measures and solutions to be implemented in more than 80 cities throughout Europe.

Therefore it is a solid network, with a considerable journey and whose prestige and recognition has been growing since its creation on a continuous basis ".

The Civitas Prize "Transformation" awards each year to that European city that has improved its sustainable mobility the most and that has put in place measures of great positive impact for urban mobility.

"Last year 2017 we understood that it was a propitious time to present our candidacy due to the intense work we have done to promote sustainable mobility in the municipality with numerous measures aimed at promoting the bicycle as the Bicycle Action Plan 2017-2019 , the construction of new bike lanes, and initiatives such as "Workshops for the bicycle" or the nocturnal bicycle routes called "Moon bike".

On the other hand in May of this year we launched the "Local Strategy of the Electric Vehicle of the Municipality of Murcia", a deep commitment to leave combustion vehicles behind and give way to a mobility dominated by clean, silent and environmentally friendly vehicles "Declares Navarro.

In addition, adds the mayor that "all these arguments have served to decant this award to our city and achieve international recognition of great value within a network composed of 250 European cities among which we can find Berlin, Copenhagen or Stockholm to put Some examples".
