Murcia breaks the barrier of 700,000 overnight stays in the municipality (07/01/2018)

The number of tourists in Murcia has grown significantly during 2017. Thus, counting only until November (last data available), there are a total of 419,586 visitors received last year, expecting a final figure of more than 450,000, which would comfortably surpass the 430,315 registered in the year 2016.

81% of these travelers come from the national territory, while the remaining 19% are of foreign origin, mostly from the United Kingdom and France.

In terms of overnight stays, in the absence of data for December, there are 680,600 registered, and it is expected that by the end of the year exceed 730,000, breaking the seven hundred thousand barrier, a figure never reached in Murcia.

The average stay of the travelers is 1.62 nights, a figure that is practically similar in recent years.

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesus Pacheco, explained that "during these last years, the growth of the number of tourists in Murcia is constant, which encourages us to work for a sector of quality and excellence."

Pacheco has stressed that "the expectations of the coming years are even greater since we will develop the Operational Plan for Tourism Development of the municipality of Murcia, which includes half a hundred actions to face the challenges of Murcia as a tourist destination until the 2020 horizon" .

The Tourism Development Plan of Murcia 2017-2020 is a working guide with concrete actions to project Murcia as a reference tourist destination of the European Mediterranean Arc.

This document guides the tourism development process, under an intelligent model, within the framework of participation and sustainability.
