UMU doctoral thesis highlights the therapeutic value of dance (26/12/2017)

The therapeutic value of the dance has been highlighted in the conclusions of the doctoral thesis conducted by Sandra Murcia Gomicia in the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Murcia (UMU).

The results of this research work are concrete in the possibility of remodeling different motor behaviors through dance, as well as in the positive effects of it in the disability.

For the new doctor by the UMU, dance can be oriented as an educational practice aimed at favoring motor development, communication, creativity, operability and, with that, improving behavior and preventing possible disorders.

Likewise, it can be used to correct possible limitations and to improve postural habits.

The doctoral thesis points out that it is about sensitizing dance professionals to other audiences so that people with disabilities can fully access their practice, on the idea of broadening the choreographic, creative and artistic vision of the students "working with the diversity of the bodies".

It also concludes that the meeting of people with and without disabilities favors mutual learning and enrichment, as well as fostering greater social awareness.

The thesis was directed by the professors of the UMU Joaquín Guerrero Muñoz and Luis Álvarez Munárriz.
