Development Cooperation contributes more than 10,000 euros for the strengthening of education in Rwanda (25/12/2017)

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation led by Rebeca Pérez, grants a grant of 10,675 euros for the promotion and development of the project "Strengthening education in Busogo-Rwanda: construction of primary school" .

This is an initiative carried out by Karit Solidarios por la Paz, NGO of the Carmelite Family founded in 1996 and which has 14 delegations in Spain, one of them in Murcia and works for the promotion of development, volunteering, communication and education for development.

The project includes the start-up of a primary school in the north of Rwanda, in Busogo, with the construction of a first block of "4 + 1" classrooms (under the same roof, 4 classrooms plus a multifunctional intermediate space).

To do this, all the initial procedures have been carried out with the district for the start of the works and, currently, the classrooms are quite advanced.

It should be noted that Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranking 159 out of 188 countries, according to the 2016 Human Development Index, with the Busogo population in the Musanze district benefiting from the project.

The main objective of the project is the strengthening of education in that locality, while in the background it is intended to improve access to primary education in Busogo;

reduce school absenteeism and illiteracy in the area;

provide quality education for all, especially low-income families;

reduce the vulnerability of children and young people in the area;

promote the education and development of women and contribute to the development of the community.

"The number of direct beneficiaries contemplated by the project is 650 people (364 women and 286 men), but the number of indirect beneficiaries is around 16,750, which is why we can speak of a total of 17,400 people, There are 9,744 women and girls, who are affected positively by this initiative ", concluded Rebeca Pérez.

Finally, it should be noted that the local counterpart of the project are the Carmelite Sisters: Congregation of Sisters of the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, Vicariate of Rwanda-Burundi.

Present in Rwanda since 1977. Their presence and closeness guarantee the sustainability of the project.
