More than 20,000 children from 146 centers of the municipality have participated this year in the drawing contest 'Murcia Ciudad Sostenible', whose awards have been delivered today in the Plenary Hall.

The winning drawings and the finalists give shape to an exhibition of environmental themes that is exhibited until December 23 in the garden next to the Plaza de la Cruz Roja

More than 20,000 children from a total of 146 centers in the municipality of Murcia have participated this year in the drawing contest 'Murcia Ciudad Sostenible', whose awards have been delivered today in the Plenary Hall.

Mayor José Ballesta highlighted "the creativity and commitment of these children, as well as their ability to involve their parents and their immediate environment in a task that concerns us all, such as caring for the environment through recycling."

In addition, both the winning drawings and the finalists give shape to an exhibition of environmental themes that is exhibited until December 23 in the garden next to the Plaza de la Cruz Roja, from 10 to 14 and from 15 to 19.

Under the motto 'Recycle and breathe.

If the air belongs to everyone, the pollution too, the children, from third to sixth year of Primary, have made the drawings paying special attention to the use of the yellow container, as a recipient of the cans and plastic bottles for recycling, which contributes to the saving of raw materials, energy, water and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, throughout the year, Ferrovial Services has carried out activities for children and awareness actions such as lectures in schools, visits organized to the facilities of Cañada Hermosa and, for the first time, the assistance of the Civic Brigades to schools to inform and raise awareness about the importance of keeping the city clean.

In Murcia it is recycled more

Murcia has registered an increase in the number of tons of waste recycled this year.

Until last November, 5.7 million Kg containers (yellow container) were collected, which is 7.7% more than in the whole of 2016. Likewise, recycled paper has increased by 7.8% and 1% glass.

It must also be borne in mind that in recent years the selective collection containers in Murcia have increased exponentially, doubling their number.
