The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, chaired today the Board of Directors of Murcia Water, which raised the creation of a Drought Committee consisting of directors of the areas involved in the Consistory and Emuasa, to establish coordinated actions to avoid water restrictions and thus guarantee the supply in Murcia homes.
This measure is part of the Action Plan against Drought presented today in the Water Management Board of Murcia, which has shown that the supply is currently guaranteed, covering the demand throughout the municipality, Despite the serious emergency situation due to drought in the Region of Murcia.
The City Council has been taking different measures in the face of water scarcity.
At the meeting held today at the Moneo has also presented the report of faults in the distribution network, which reflects the significant decline achieved in recent years thanks to a comprehensive control of infrastructure, from the 1,385 breakdowns detected in 2013 to 894 of 2017, which represents 34% less losses, achieving an important and necessary water saving.
The City Council has also opted to limit the watering of the gardens due to the water emergency situation and at this time of the year, 60% of water in this supply is being saved.
Another action that is being carried out is to restrict the irrigation of public roads, streets and sidewalks.
In this regard, it should be noted that the urban cleaning fleet has been renewed with new vehicles and machines that reduce water consumption, improving the efficiency and sustainability of this public service.
