Promotion activates a special cleaning device for the Christmas holidays (18/12/2017)

The Department of Public Works, directed by Roque Ortiz, together with Ferrovial Servicios, have activated a special road cleaning system for these Christmas holidays, reinforcing the usual tasks with extraordinary services in the areas of greater affluence so that the streets maintain an optimal state in some dates in which the city presents a greater activity in the public space

This cleaning plan, which will attend the parties, markets and other events that are held these days in Murcia, is formed by a reinforcement of 5 workers and 4 electric vehicles (sweepers, vacuum cleaners and sweeper) that are added to the ordinary service in the areas of more affluence of citizens and that will remain until next Monday, January 8.

In addition, special actions will be available on the most important days such as Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve-New Year and Kings.

In the Barrio del Carmen, and due to the increase in commercial activity in this area, a cleaning reinforcement has been planned in the afternoon hours between 2 and 9 pm, which continues the cleaning tasks usually carried out in the morning, improving the urban cleanliness of this emblematic neighborhood of the city.

The service is comprised of an operator with an auxiliary vehicle that will be responsible for reviewing this area by manual and mechanical sweeping with sweeper and electric motorcycle that reinforce the cleaning tasks.

These tasks are also applied in the downtown area of the city (Circular Square, Alfonso X the Wise, Gran Vía) for being the busiest on these dates.

With the entry of the month of December the collection of waste from the center with a collector and two workers has been expanded, motivated by the increase in commercial and hotel activity these days, increasing the capacity of depositing waste at the usual points of contribution voluntarily improving the image of these points in terms of the presence of waste outside or next to the containers.

The schedule of this collection will start at 2:00 p.m.

To cope with the increase in paper and cardboard these days, the collection of this waste will be reinforced in the shops of the area, extending the current collection schedule by establishing this service from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., in order to meet the increase in commercial activity in the commercial axes of the city.

The cleaning tasks are also extended from 2:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. with a sweeping motorbike and an electric vacuum cleaner, without forgetting the ordinary services that are carried out daily.

On the other hand, on the occasion of the celebrations of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, and based on the experience of previous years, where areas of high public concentration have been presented from 14 to 21, such as Plaza de Santa Isabel, Plaza de las Flores, Gran Vía, Alfonso X and Bartolomé Perez Casas, it is planned to reinforce the service in order to adequately address the high number of waste generated in such a short space of time.

The device for these locations will be made up of 21 workers with 17 mechanical means (street sweepers, vacuum cleaners, motor-sweepers and mini-collectors) in addition to 18 additional 240-liter containers.

In the race of the San Silvestre will be applied to the tracks where this popular race will run a review of cleaning before and after the same with a special service consisting of two operators and a foreman plus cleaning reinforcement with electric sweeper.

Finally, after the traditional Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos, a team composed of 14 workers plus 4 street sweepers and two auxiliary vehicles will be available.

Ecopark and ecopoints

At Christmas, the Ecoparque located in San Ginés and the mobile Ecopoints will continue in their normal schedule, except for marked holidays.

The collection service for furniture and large appliances is also maintained.

Citizens also have at their disposal on these dates the telephone 900 511 133 of Citizen Services and the web page murciaciudadsostenible.

For the maximum use of the device and municipal resources in the cleaning and management of waste, the City of Murcia reminds the importance of the shared responsibility of citizens in maintaining a clean and orderly city also during Christmas.

The performance of the civic brigades will continue to play a fundamental role in this aspect, since in their daily work, they communicate timely information on the compliance of the municipal ordinance to pedestrians as well as to the merchants of the visited areas, so that between all our gestures and cleaning habits are more correct and help to maintain our environment.
