Change Murcia asks to analyze the effects of the freedom of schedules in the small commerce of the municipality (17/12/2017)

The councilor of Cambiemos Murcia Margarita Guerrero has submitted a motion to the Plenary on Thursday by urging the government team to, together with the Local Trade Council, make an annual report to know the impact of the liberalization of schedules on the small trade.

Guerrero recalled that the municipality of Murcia has recently been declared, part of its urban area, Great Tourist Area after exceeding 600,000 overnight stays last year.

The regulation establishes that it is the municipalities that have to delimit the area to apply the law.

In the case of Murcia, the Consistory decided last July that the commercial establishments located in the area of the urban area of Murcia had free timetables.

This provoked the complaints of several merchants' associations, which put on the table the negative effects that the measure would cause for small businesses, especially benefiting large stores and chains, with which they will hardly be able to compete.

In line with what has been denounced by these associations, Guerrero has called the regulation "detrimental" for smaller stores, which already suffer competition from shopping centers and the consequences of a policy that is more committed to these than to the traditional trade

For this reason, it has proposed that together with the newly established Local Trade Council, in which entities of the sector are represented, the impact of the measure should be analyzed on an annual basis and thus be able to carry out public policies that support small businesses.
