Nearly 250 adolescents from the municipality of Murcia participate in a Social Rights project to promote their socio-educational integration (12/12/2017)

Since June, Project 13-17 has managed to launch 26 groups, 15 of them in districts, with a total of 247 participants. The activities seek to develop competencies and attitudes for the promotion of education in values, gender equality, coeducation, interculturality, tolerance and respect for the unequal

The Councilor for Social Rights of the City of Murcia, Conchita Ruiz, has visited the members of Project 13-17 with adolescents from the La Paz-La Fama neighborhood.

This is one of the 26 groups that have been launched since last September within the "Project of Socio-educational Intervention with Adolescents at Risk of Social Exclusion of the Municipality of Murcia, from the Gender Perspective".

This new initiative was born last June, when summer schools were held with a total of 130 participants, arousing great interest on the part of the children.

Good proof of this is that the name of the program, 'Project 13-17' was chosen by the adolescents themselves through a participatory process, leaving the definitive name in a meeting held on October 27 in the Pergola of San Basilio.

The Department of Social Rights was already developing initiatives with adolescents from the Municipal Centers of Social Services, San Pío X (agglutinates S. Pío X, Barriomar and El Carmen), Espinardo, Beniaján, Alquerías, La Ñora, Santa Mª de Gracia, La Alberca and La Paz-La Fama, which are now expanded, managing to launch 26 groups with a total of 247 participants, 115 girls and 132 boys, spread across the city of Murcia and 15 districts.

To these will be added soon 2 new working groups.

"The main objective is to generate specific reference contexts for adolescents, from which to respond to their demands and needs and those of their families." In this way, a network of educational resources is created, in addition to those existing in the educational, training-labor, socio-cultural and community territory, as a means of acting and preventing, in situations of risk or exclusion in which they may be immersed ", explained the councilor.

This is joined by work to promote positive family and social ties, foster the ability to adapt to changes, train in social skills to manage their own emotions, improve academic performance, offer meeting spaces and training for parents and mothers, to promote free time as a space as well as to develop competences and attitudes for the promotion of education in values, gender equality, coeducation, interculturality, tolerance and respect for the unequal.

"We are carrying out a calendar of activities developed during the first months of work that deal with the areas related to the adolescent, such as social participation, new technologies, culture, leisure and free time and curricular area with the following contents and centers of interest ", added Conchita Ruiz.

That is why we have tried to strengthen environmental education, for health, values, social skills and conflict resolution;

visits, field trips and academic reinforcement;

the proper use of new technologies;

activities for parents, support in the progress of education, respect for other cultures, values of solidarity and basic rules of coexistence or community activities in neighborhoods where projects with adolescents are developed.

In the case of the group La Paz-La Fama, which has visited the Councilor for Social Rights, there are various actions taken during the months of September and October, such as work on emotions through dynamics, games and role-plays. playing, the screening of shorts on education in values and awareness of machismo, school bullying or drug addiction, excursions and thematic parties, food workshops and meetings with other youth groups or participation in the Children's Rights Week.
