Sustainable Development Goals

But in addition, within the Council, the need to work towards achieving compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) has been put on the table.

As approved by the UN, in September 2015, more than 150 Heads of State and Government.

These new objectives present the uniqueness of urging all countries, whether rich, poor or middle-income, to adopt measures to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.

They recognize that initiatives to end poverty must go hand in hand with strategies that favor economic growth and address a range of social needs, including education, health, social protection, and employment opportunities. the time they fight against climate change and promote the protection of the environment.

"It is true that the SDGs are not legally binding but nonetheless include aspects that include many aspects inherent to development aid, such as the elimination of poverty (Objective 1), zero hunger (objective 2), health and well-being. (goal 3), and so on, which have a strong impact on developing countries and therefore forces us to continue persevering from the field of development cooperation, "said Rebeca Pérez.

It must also be said that the SDGs have a much broader scope than the past Millennium Development Goals that covered a temporary scope until 2015, and that were mainly more focused on developing countries.

The SDGs have a global focus that affects both the countries with the highest levels of development and those in development.

"We have to work to see to what extent we can contribute towards the achievement of the SDGs, in addition to the line of work that we already maintain through our grants aimed at development cooperation projects, humanitarian aid and education for development and awareness" , the Councilor for Development Cooperation has concluded.
