Agreement of the Municipal Corporation for the appointment of Favorite Son of José María Falgas, Alejandro Valverde and Ãngel Martínez Belmonte (30/11/2017)

The Plenary of the City Council held today has agreed to the award of honors and honors of the year 2018. Specifically, the proposal has consisted of the nomination of Favorite Son of the City of Angel Martinez Belmonte, Alejandro Valverde Belmonte and José María Falgas Rigal, and the award of the Gold Medal to the Brotherhood of Slaves of Our Father Jesus of the Rescue and Mary Most Holy of Hope.

These distinctions will be joined by those of Francisco Salzillo and Alcaraz and Andrés Hernández Ros, whose appointments as Favorite Son were approved in May and October, respectively.

With regard to Angel Belmonte, the City of Murcia recognizes its connection and selfless collaboration in the celebrations of the municipality and its impetus in the Christmas celebrations around the figure of Santa Claus, which has represented for years.

He has also collaborated with the Federation of Moors and Christians, contributing material and playing the role of Ambassador Moro, in addition to having been founder of the Kábila Ibn-Arabien 1983. The proposal has been presented by the Popular, Socialist, Citizens and Francisco Javier groups Trigueros.

Also, and after unanimously approved by the Corporation, the City Council will recognize next year the link between cyclist Alejandro Valverde and the municipality of Murcia, where he was born on April 25, 1980. Since his professional debut in 2002, he has always been an example of sportsmanship, improvement and team awareness.

Throughout these years, Valverde has been the ambassador of Murcia, since his land has always been present in every title, interview or event of which he has been the protagonist.

The agreement was also unanimous for the painter José María Falgas Rigal to receive his distinction as the Favorite Son of Murcia.

Born in 1929 in the popular street of San Antonio, since he painted his first oil painting in 1945, he has been an ambassador of his land, which he has masterfully reproduced in oils and watercolors, which has placed him as one of Murcia's artists most recognized of the XX and XXI century.

At the proposal of the groups Popular, Socialist, Citizens and the not attached mayor, Francisco Javier Trigueros, the Brotherhood of Slaves of Our Father Jesus of the Rescue and Mary Most Holy of Hope will receive the Gold Medal of the City in recognition of their religious bond , historical and cultural with the municipality of Murcia.

The Brotherhood, which runs every Holy Tuesday, was founded in 1941, date from which it has actively contributed to the splendor of Holy Week in Murcia, declared of International Tourist Interest.

In addition, its work in the maintenance of the cult and conservation of its owners is praiseworthy, one of the most important artistic works of our Region.

This is the anonymous work the Christ of the Rescue, a captive who received worship in the late Convent of the Trinity.

This brotherhood, like all the passion and glory of our town, are part of the history of Murcia since the first of them was founded in 1411.

More than 600 years of Holy Week, one of the most peculiar and valuable in Spain.
