Change Murcia requires that responsibilities be debugged by the institutional campaign #BloqueaElMaltrato (24/11/2017)

Cambiemos Murcia today demanded explanations from the mayor, José Ballesta, and the Councilor for Social Rights, Concepción Ruiz, for the institutional campaign #BloqueaElMaltrato, launched yesterday to raise awareness against gender violence and from which a part has been withdrawn after receiving complaints The mayor of the municipal training, Margarita Guerrero, has strongly condemned the campaign, and has described it as "inopportune and inadequate" for containing "confusing" messages, reinforcing gender stereotypes with the election of color and, "the most serious thing, to focus attention on potential victims", and not on the aggressors.

Regarding the chosen label, Guerrero has considered that "it blames women for 'not blocking' machismo," which constitutes a "terrible message" because it blames women for a problem that affects the entire society.

"We speak of sexist violence, a social scourge that leads to the murder of dozens of women in our country every year and multiple acts of male violence every day, therefore, we can not allow the dissemination of erroneous or confusing messages from public institutions" , has held.

This episode, in the words of the mayor, highlights the need for the government team to take equality policies seriously and count "once and for all" with feminist groups to develop effective actions in the fight against male violence.

Questions to the Plenary

Murcia change has directed a battery of questions to the plenary next Thursday for the City Council to explain if the development of the campaign has had the Technical Unit of Equality Consistory and what has been the cost of the same.

It has also claimed explanations about the criteria that have been followed to hire the Judoc company to carry out the design, since in the profile of this company, dedicated to communication and documentation, is not the realization of activities related to equality .

In this sense, "it is essential to have professionals in the field of equality when implementing these contents, especially when they are aimed at sensitizing the public," said Guerrero, who has also denounced that the Equality Council has not had knowledge of the development of this campaign.

For Guerrero, the response of citizens regarding the messages contained in the posters has been "forceful" and the City Council "can not continue to turn a blind eye to policies that turn their backs on social reality".
