City Council and Autonomous Community put in motion actions and recommendations to favor the improvement of air quality (24/11/2017)

Despite the fact that the limit value provided by the legislation has not been exceeded, measures have been included that include, in addition to the permanent monitoring of polluting values, the control of the Local Police to give traffic flow and avoid prolonged or unnecessary stops.

Citizens are advised to minimize energy consumption in homes and avoid using private vehicles.

The City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community, through the General Directorate of Environment, have launched a series of measures, actions and recommendations to improve air quality in the city.

These include, in addition to the permanent control of polluting values, other traffic control measures by the Local Police.

Since last Saturday, the 18th, and for six consecutive days, PM10 particle levels have been recorded at the San Basilio air quality measurement station that have exceeded the daily limit value set at 50 μg / m3 by the Royal Decree 102/2011, of January 28, relating to the improvement of air quality.

Specifically, average daily values of 58 μg / m3, 59 μg / m3, 56, 55 and 57 μg / m3 respectively for these three days of exceedances have been reached.

This limit value can not be exceeded more than 35 times per year, and now it has happened 21 times: two days in February, two days in March, two in April, two in June, five days in August and six days in November .

These episodes occur in circumstances that do not favor the dispersion of pollutants, such as states of thermal inversion or persistent anticyclonic situations, which are currently occurring in Murcia and much of Spain, causing unfavorable air quality.

These climatic phenomena contribute to the fact that pollutants mainly coming from traffic accumulate in the lower layer of the atmosphere and have a negative impact on air quality.

In view of the data recorded in recent days at the San Basilio station, the City of Murcia, in collaboration with the General Directorate for the Environment, in anticipation that these weather conditions may continue to be maintained, has decided to launch a set of measures, with actions and recommendations, in order to reverse this situation of unfavorable air quality.

Such measures are specified in:

1.

2.

On the part of the Local Police it will be monitored that:

to.

b.

Do not make prolonged or unnecessary stops with the engine running (loading and unloading, long / medium-term traffic lights, etc.).

3.

4.

Citizens are encouraged to adopt habits that favor the reduction of pollutant emissions, such as:

to.

b.

Make a more responsible use of the car, sharing it and practicing a more efficient driving.

c.
