The councilor points out that it is necessary "to evaluate in the municipality the effects on public health of tropospheric ozone that are reflected, according to the scientific community, in affection to the quality of life in asthmatic people, with chronic bronchopulmonary diseases or the elderly population and infantile, more exposed to the oxidative action of tropospheric ozone in their respiratory system ".
The data published and analyzed by Ecologists in Action on the pollutant ozone, at the San Basilio station, with 37 days of exceedance, and Murcia-Alcantarilla, with 51 days of exceeding the target value of protection of human health, surpass both 25 days / year limit established by current legislation.
These data indicate that this year tropospheric ozone pollution presents Murcia as one of the main sources of pollution in the Region of Murcia.
The Plan for the Improvement of Air Quality in the Region of Murcia 2015-2018, approved by the Governing Council on November 27, 2015, recognized that "it is necessary to articulate an Air Quality Improvement Plan for ozone" and pointed out that it was necessary "to establish a greater control of the precursory sources and to deepen the knowledge of the mechanisms of formation and transport".
Therefore, the motion presented by Ahora Murcia demands that the City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community "promote inclusion in the Air Quality Improvement Plan as a quality objective compliance with the daily objective value of protection of human health ( ozone hour) of the WHO Guidelines (World Health Organization) based on the weight of current scientific evidence ".
Morales explains that "based on the new city model that we claim, which includes innovative traffic management systems, favoring non-polluting modes and the necessary energy savings, it is also essential to give a great boost to public transport. sustainable and the network for the use of bicycles a very precarious one and another nonexistent today in most of the municipality ".
