A yellow solidary megalazo in the Plaza Belluga to raise awareness about spina bifida (21/11/2017)

The Murcian Association of Parents and Children with Spina Bifida gives a reading to the protest manifesto of support and awareness on the World Day of the Spina Bifida.

José Ballesta described Amupheb's work during these 35 years as "absolutely essential" and thanked his "pioneering and exemplary" work.

A yellow solidary megalazo has worn today in the Plaza Belluga for the World Day of the Spina Bifida, organized by the Murcian Association of Parents and Children with Spina Bifida (Amupheb).

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and the Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, attended today the activities organized by the Association and the reading of the protest manifesto to support and raise awareness about the disease.

José Ballesta described the work of Amupheb as "absolutely essential, for all he has done during these 35 years, the achievements and the impact on our society, thanks to the work developed by this pioneering and exemplary Association" and stressed that "the Constitution It states that all Spaniards are born free and equal in rights and obligations, and although it seems that much progress has been made in freedom, not so much in equality.

They are responsible for reminding us that we are all the same, regardless of our physical or intellectual capabilities. "

This afternoon, from 7.30 pm Amupheb members will hold a gathering in the Plaza Belluga, coinciding with the lighting of the Moneo building in yellow, as a sign of support for all people suffering from spina bifida in Murcia and their families.

Currently, the association founded in 1980 covers about 900 people, both cases of spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Amupheb is part of FEBHI, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, and FAMDIF, the Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disability.

The entity is a national reference within the associative movement for people with disabilities and offers throughout the year guidance, assistance, educational, recreational, work, training, cultural and sports activities and services that favor the quality of life of the users and their full integration.

In our country there are currently around 19,000 patients with spina bifida, with a prevalence of 8 cases per 10,000 births.
